Globalisasi dan postmodernitas menawarkan konsep berpikir dan praktek yang berimbas pada cara hidup masyarakat secara berbeda. Euforia gelombang budaya Korea dan Jepang, sedikit menggeser budaya barat (dewesterinisasi) yang telah mengkooptasi budaya anak muda di Indonesia, menjadi salah satu bukti bagaimana kontestasi kepentingan terjadi pula dalam era kini. Terlebih ketika isu ini kemudian melekat dengan persoalan pergeseran identitas anak muda, pun yang terjadi di Maluku, dimana lokus penelitian ini akan dilakukan. Dalam kondisi tersebut, berbagai gerakan diinisiasi oleh beberapa kelompok untuk mempertahankan identitas subkultur yang dimiliki. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (a) mendeskripsikan identitas kultural yang dipahami penggiat seni di Maluku; (b) menjelaskan upaya restorasi identitas subkultur masyarakat Maluku dilakukan oleh para penggiat seni; dan (c) mendeskripsikan tantangan yang dihadapi dalam restorasi tersebut. Penelitian akan dilakukan menggunakan metode kualitatif melalui Focus Group Discussion (FGD), wawancara mendalam terhadap 6 orang seniman Maluku, observasi, serta menggunakan proses analisis yang diperkuat dengan dokumen-dokumen karya yang mereka ciptakan. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penggiat seni di Maluku memandang identitas kultural merupakan kekhasan budaya Maluku yang bersifat statis dan harus dipertahankan. Upaya restorasi mereka lakukan menggunakan medium karya seni berupa musik (baik lirik maupun instrument) dan karya foto dan audio visual. Tantangan penggiat seni di Maluku adalah rendahnya penerimaan masyarakat lokal terhadap karya seni berbasis identitas lokal dan keberlangsungan pelaku sendiri dalam mempertahankan ideologi mereka terhadap eksistensi budaya lokal.

Abstract

Globalization and postmodern society have provided a way of thinking and pragmatism aspect that yields diverse impacts. The euphoria of Korea and Japan's cultural wave has shaped the de-westernization that has coopted Indonesian youth. The issue influenced by identity shifting includes the youth of Molluca where this research is conducted. This condition ignited several community groups to preserve their subculture. According to the above background, this study aims to (a) describe the cultural identity of Mollucan artists, (b) describe the challenges in the culture restoration process, and (c) explain the restoration efforts to preserve Mollucan subculture identity by the Mollucan artist. The research used a qualitative method which conducted Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and in-depth-interview with 6 Mollucan artists and observation. In the analysis process, we strengthened the secondary data including their artworks. The results conclude that Mollucan artists perceive that cultural identity is Molucca cultural peculiarities that tend to be static and need to be maintained. They have undertaken cultural restoration through artwork, such as music (lyrics and instruments), photos, and audio-visual. Their challenges are local people's rejection of art based on local identity and the sustainability of artist livelihood in the art ecosystem to keep their ideology of local culture.
